RCC EMT Intermediate Course
YOU MUST READ AND UNDERSTAND THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION PRIOR TO APPLYING FOR THE INTERMEDIATE COURSE.
The EMT-I course and curriculum has changed substantially from the way the course was structured in the past. Previously, the EMT Intermediate course heavily focused on skills and protocol-based treatment; under the current curriculum, the focus has shifted to a more thorough understanding of disease processes and pathophysiology. Students should have a basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology prior to the start of this course. Students will be expected to demonstrate critical thinking skills and to apply those skills in the process of making differential diagnoses and treatment decisions; as a result, students should anticipate the need for significant reading and study time associated with this course.
Additional classroom and clinical time beyond that in the posted schedule will be required. Prior to the start of the scheduled class on September 30, 2008, several class sessions will be scheduled to help students prepare for the significant didactic demands of this class.
Eligibility Requirements Ø You must be a currently certified Oregon EMT Basic in good standing. Ø You must have the endorsement of your EMS Agency Training Officer or a supervising physician confirming that you are experienced and competent at the Basic level (The endorsement form is included in the application packet).
Desirable Qualifications Ø More than one year of practical experience as an EMT Basic Ø Current affiliation with an EMS response agency Ø Prior completion of Anatomy and Physiology coursework
