Computer Proficiency Exam FAQs
What is it? An exam that tests computer literacy and computer skills.
Why take it? If you pass the exam, you will not have to take CS120.
What’s the COST? $50 fee is payable at the time of registration. The fee is non-refundable, even if you don’t pass the exam.
Who should NOT take it? Computer Science majors and anyone wanting to take a computer course at RCC. The Computer Proficiency Exam does not waive the CS120 prerequisite for another computer course. If you need CS120 waived, see the instructor of the course you want to take or see an advisor in the Computer Science Department: 245-7527 or 956-7213.
Is there another way I can take a higher level computer course? YES, see the instructor of the course you want to take or an advisor in the Computer Science Department: 245-7527 at RVC or 956-7213 at RWC. They can waive the prerequisite if appropriate.
How to sign up? Go to ROGUE CENTRAL to register for the exam.

What steps do I take?
- Decide if you want to ever take any computer science courses at RCC. If YES, DO NOT take this exam. If NO, go to #2
- Find out if “computer proficiency” is required for your major or degree. If NO, DO NOT take this exam. If YES, go to #3
- Go to Rogue Central to register and pay $50 for the exam. The fee is non-refundable.

- File Management
- Word Processing (Word)
- Spread Sheets (Excel)
- Internet Browser
- General computer concepts (50 short-answer or multiple-choice questions)
- Computer components and peripherals
- Operating Systems
- Computer Applications
What is a passing score on the exam?
- 100% on the file management portion
- 70% average on remaining sections, with no single-section score below 60%
- The grade will be pass/no pass
